975 YK: Erdan was born in the Eldeen Reaches on the first day of Rhaan in the nine hundred and seventy-fifth year after the founding of the Kingdom of Galifar; the eighty-first year since the start of the Last War, which is still raging; and the seventeenth year after the Reaches declared themselves a nation independent of Aundair and under the protection, if not the rule, of the Wardens of the Wood and the Great Druid Oalian.
He spent his early childhood in the western part of the Towering Wood, east of the Twilight Demesne, in a community that largely followed the druidic teachings of the Wardens, and it was there that he first learned to about the spirits of the land.
986 YK: He was eleven years old when news came to his settlement that an army of monsters, led by hags, had arrived in the area of western Breland known as Droaam. The southern edges of the Reaches where he lived had always been subject to sporadic raids by the harpies of the Byshek Mountains, but these raids became more aggressive as the hags began to score successes against Brelish troops, and later that year Erdan was taken in a raid by the Forgotten Choir harpies and set to work as a domestic slave in their eyrie in the Bysheks.
987 YK: Within a year Breland had pulled its settlers east of the Graywall mountains and the hags, daughters of Sora Kell, had declared Droaam an independent nation. Erdan was an unusually large child and by the time he was twelve he was strong enough that he was sold to work on the construction of the hags’ capital, the Great Cragg.
He laboured for six years in that strange city of ogres, trolls, minotaurs, orcs, goblinoids and the occasional medusa, ruled by the three sisters: the charismatic Sora Katra, the terrifying Sora Maenya, and the enigmatic blind hag Sora Teraza. Sora Katra was much loved by the lesser creatures of the Cragg, and having heard her speak on occasion Erdan had to admit she was a brilliant orator. Blessedly he never came into contact with Sora Maenya, who was rumoured to have a taste for humanoid flesh and who bound the souls of her victims to their skulls which she kept as mementos, or the seer Sora Teraza.
