Regaining Healing Surges

Extended Rest

After an extended rest, a character makes an Endurance check. The number of healing surges regained depends on the endurance check result: an Easy check results in the gain of one healing surge; a Moderate check results in the gain of two healing surges; and a Hard check results in the gain of three healing surges.

The Endurance check assumes that a person is sleeping out of doors, using a bedroll, in dry conditions, in a temperate (night time) climate, having eaten an adequate amount of trail rations. Otherwise, certain modifiers may apply.

Healing Skill

If a character is under the care of a healer during his extended rest, at the end of the extended rest the healer may make a Heal check to restore bonus healing surges to the character.

Using the character’s level when setting DCs, an Easy check results in the gain of one healing surge; a Moderate check results in the gain of two healing surges; and a Hard check results in the gain of three healing surges.

A healer may care for as many as __ patients as a time.

The time spent tending patients does not count toward the six hours of sleep that the healer needs to complete an extended rest. Note that healers may tend to patients in shifts; in that case, the average of the healers’ Heal bonuses (rounded down) is used for the Heal check.
